SNOW !

Just a quick little post to show you the snow that fell in the last few days. Apparently the news in Australia is including the UK in 'the 'Big Freeze' that has hit Europe. We have had about 8 cm of snow fall in the last 24 hours and, while the last 10 days have been noticeably colder than most of winter this far, it has been reported that this has been the mildest winter in the UK in about 300 years. The snow that fell last year was much more than this recent fall. The pictures below show our street today, 5th Feb. There are no pictures of the kids enjoying the snow here as, less than 24 hours before the snow fell and roads were covered and airports closed, both of them flew out for a week's skiing in France. As you do.

The snow started falling within half an hour of its predicted 6 pm start last night, Saturday 4th. The kids had to be at school by 3:30 am on Saturday morning to be at Gatwick airport for a 7am flight. Had the snow been 24 hours earlier or the kids' departure 24 hours later they may well have not gone at all. As we enjoy the sight of the garden and street covered in snow and rug up against -3 and -4 temps here, Aisha & William are luxuriating in the mountain resort of Alpe d'Huez in France.

Click on the link below and then on the resort button to have a look at the webcam images as well as the weather forecast. The picture beside is a webcam shot from today. A few days before they were due to leave London the Alpine forecast had the maximum temps at around -18 most days with a minimum at -25. Thankfully that had warmed up to a more reasonable - 14 and to even -7 in the middle of the week.  We haven't heard from them as yet but we assume no news is good news.
